Learning objects Languages online: comprehension task maker

Students can use this tool to create an interactive comprehension activity based on a text. The text can be up to 20 pages long and can include images and sound as well as print. Up to 20 true/false or multiple-choice comprehension questions can be included. The tool also provides three files for the student and teacher to download, a five-part information screen, and 19 examples of comprehension task games already created for Indonesian, Italian, French, German, Spanish and English.

Educational value
  • This resource is a valuable tool for students, allowing them to create interactive comprehension tasks for any level and for any topic, in any language and using any script. It also enhances their own comprehension skills. The tool requires them to focus on the text and on creating useful questions that reveal the level of comprehension of those completing the activity.
  • Although useful in a range of learning areas, this tool is particularly valuable for language learning. In both the English and Languages learning areas it can be used to enhance students' comprehension skills to interpret, analyse and synthesise ideas and information.
  • As shown by the examples, testing one of several comprehension types (reading, listening, visual, and multimodal) can be the aim of the game.
  • The tool provides guidelines (including some on how to write multiple-choice questions) and some advice on technical issues. An assessment rubric for teachers is included.
